Who can stand in the way of a man with authority

By J Cole
A wise teacher puts his students through a period of great testing before recommending them to the graduate school.

When I was young and filled with follies
My elders visited me while I was drinking wine
And they sat in the court, facing the west
And they look upon the night.

Have you attended the school of the ants?
They asked
I have not attended the school of the ants
I said.
Unless you attend the school of the ants
They said
You will not survive in that cell.

As a good son
I heeded to the wisdom of my elders
And attend the school of the ants.

When I was much older
And conform to the cell.
My elders visited me while I was in the south.
Have you attended the school of the bees?
They asked.
I have not attended the school of the bees
I said.
Unless you attend the school of the bees
They said.
You will not go from this cell.

As a good son
I heeded to the wisdom of my elders
And attend the school of the bees.

When it was time for me to build my house
My elders visited me in the east
While I was digging the earth.

Have you attended the school of the spiders?
They asked.
I have not attended the school of the spiders
I said
Unless you attend the school of the spiders
They said
You will not know how to build your house.

As a good son
I heeded to the wisdom of my elders
And attend to the school of the spiders.

Think not that sorrow can exist in the face of consciousness.

Should a man cry over spilled milk?

Sorrow cannot exist in the face of consciousness;
for when there is consciousness sorrow taken its leave; and, he that overcome is full of understanding.

Have I said this man or that man hindered me?
O Africa,
Who can stand in the way of a man with authority
.
