We’re thrilled to welcome “the King of Kalimba” Njacko Backo to finish off our celebration of African Liberation Month. This will also be a CD release party for Njacko’s TENTH album!

Njacko Backo left his native Cameroons in his teens, to the great benefit of Toronto’s music scene. One of the most renowned percussionists in the city, he plays several other instruments including the bass, thumb piano and African harp. Njacko is also an acclaimed composer (now with 10 CDs to his credit), dancer and choreographer, who in addition contributes tirelessly to local fundraisers and philanthropic causes. See Njacko leading his band live and discover why he’s called “the King of Kalimba”.

Afrofest is celebrating its 25th anniversary on July 6 & 7, 2013, returning to Woodbine Park, Lakeshore Boulevard East and Coxwell Avenue. As a part of the celebrations, Afrofest will be saluting Black History Month this February for its 6th annual series of Friday night concerts. The series features a diverse selection of top African artists living and working in the city – Discover Africa in Toronto! Each week there will a different line-up of African talent performing live, so get ready for a night of dancing and celebrating Africa!
